What Is Lane Departure Warning?

Honda Sensing

Lane Departure Warning is one of many advanced safety features you can find in the Honda Sensing™ safety suite that’s standard in most new Honda models. This feature is designed to help drivers avoid possible collisions caused by drifting out of their lane. Check out all this feature can do for you and your Newark commute with Metro Honda.

How Does LDW Work?

This system uses cameras, which are located near the rearview mirror, to detect lane markings. When your vehicle’s wheels move past that lane marker, the system will flash an indicator and provide a beeping alert to warn you to move back into your lane. In some cases, the steering wheel and even seat will vibrate to ensure you’re aware you’re drifting and can safely move back into your lane. The Lane Departure Warning system can help prevent crashes from:

  • A vehicle sticking out too far in an adjoining lane
  • Sideswiping
  • A rollover
  • And more

When you drive a Honda, this system is automatically activated when you start your vehicle. In other vehicles, you may need to push a button to activate the system. Also, note this system will not go off if you’re using your turn signal.

Lane Departure Warning Options

On Honda models, the Lane Departure Warning system offers a few different options for customization. This ensures driver receive the alerts they need to stay be safe on the Bayonne streets. These options include customized feedback, warning types, and more such as:

  • Haptic feedback warnings like seat and wheel vibrations
  • Visual alerts with a flashing lane marking symbol
  • Adjustable audible warning levels
  • The ability to disable the system
  • Highway’s edge recognition
