What Is Honda Sensing™ Technology?

October 26th, 2015 by

Honda SensingImagine a world where car accidents rarely ever happen. Collision repair experts may cringe, but Honda has brought drivers several steps closer to that goal with their new Sensing Technology. Far more than a trendy safety feature, Honda Sensing™ is a comprehensive suite of driver-assistive technologies designed to give motorists greater awareness of their environment. Here are some of the key features the system offers.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

With the help of a monocular camera, the LDW system detects visible lane boundaries and alerts drivers to non-indicated lane departures. Not only does it does it give them a visual warning on the display when they start to drift in the lane, but it also sends vibrations through the steering wheel to ensure safe driving.

Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

When the aforementioned alerts do not produce the desired effect, LKAS applies corrective steering to bring the vehicle back into the detected lane. The system actually applies the brakes and corrects the steering drift, making it an innovative and potentially lifesaving piece of technology.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Most modern cars have cruise control, but it has never been a smart, reactive system—until now. ACC lets Honda drivers program the maximum speed they want to drive as well as the distance at which they’re comfortable following other vehicles. As long as there’s no one in front of them, their vehicle will maintain the set speed without manual input.

Forward Collision Warning (FCW)

Working in tandem with the Collision Mitigation Braking System™, FCW utilizes a small camera to detect nearby vehicles. If it concludes that the driver is in immediate risk of a front-end collision, the system will use audio and visual alerts to warn him/her. Should the driver fail to respond, the CMBS will immediately apply the brakes.

Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™)

With the help of a wave radar sensor, CMBS automatically brings the vehicle to a halt when it determines that a collision will occur without immediate intervention. A sophisticated safety feature, it helps reduce the risk of a front-end crash.
