2019 Honda Civic Sedan Collision Mitigation Braking System

The vehicles in the new Honda lineup come equipped with the Honda Sensing® suite of advanced driver-assist systems that are designed to help keep you aware and protected on Bayonne roads. One of the many innovative technologies included with Honda Sensing® is the Honda Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) which can detect a potential front-end collision and reduce potential impact by sending warnings to the driver to apply the brakes. Learn more about how Collision Mitigation can enhance your Newark-area driving experience in this guide from Metro Honda.

How Does Collision Mitigation Work?

The Honda Collision Mitigation Braking System™ features a radar transmitter mounted in the front grille trim which can determine the distance and closing speed of obstacles ahead of you. If Collision Mitigation detects another vehicle or a pedestrian in front of the car, it will provide both visual and audio warnings. If you do not immediately respond, the system will automatically apply the brakes. These are three stages or levels of response that CMBS™ deploys when a potential collision is detected:

  • Stage 1: Visual and audio warnings are given to alert the driver of an oncoming obstacle ahead.
  • Stage 2: With these warnings, the brakes are lightly applied to slow down the vehicle, helping avoid a collision.
  • Stage 3: Along with these warnings, the brakes are applied strongly in order to dramatically reduce your speed.

Since your attention should be focused on driving, the third stage shouldn’t be needed. However, knowing that it’s part of the system response will provide extra peace of mind to your Hoboken-area commute.

Which Models Feature the Honda Collision Mitigation System™?

The following vehicles in the new Honda lineup come with Honda Sensing® and Collision Mitigation:
