Whether you are an art aficionado or looking for something different to do during your time in Jersey City, you won’t want to miss the Jersey City’s street art. This free outdoor gallery can be found all over the city with gorgeous and thought-provoking murals. Learn more about this unique and exciting art program and exhibit with the locals at Metro Honda.

Creation of Jersey City’s Street Art

In 2013, the Jersey City Mural Art’s Program, funded by the Clean Communities Grant, began working to beautify the city are reduce graffiti with this outdoor art initiative. The program worked to pair property owners with local, national, and international mural artists to update the landscape of the city in the midst of widespread Jersey City gentrification.

Mural Art Locations

No matter what you are crossing off your list of things to do in Jersey City, there is bound to be some art to take in. The mural art can be found throughout the city, and much of it is accessible by public transportation. While you can find art almost anywhere when you visit Jersey City, there are a couple of areas worth making a stop by if you can:

  • Grove Street, especially near the pedestrian plaza
  • Jersey Heights
  • Near the Holland Tunnel
  • Downtown Jersey City

Mural Artists

These expansive works of art were created by artists from down the street and around the world. Some notable names who have added their mural art to the Jersey City surroundings include:

  • Mata Ruda: After growing up in Costa Rica and immigrating to the U.S. from Venezuela, Mata strives to connect immigrants and highlight underrepresentation.
  • Alice Pasquini: This Roman artist’s mural is actually part of a series of murals which extend all the way to Rockway Beach, NY.
  • Pawn: Aka Shawn Mendes, is a Jersey City artist who has been in the scene for the past 15 years and is known for his political murals.
