How to Get Ice Off Your Windshield

If you’re someone who’s lived in Bayonne for a while, then you know that the winters can bring some heavy snow and ice. Luckily, the service team at Metro Honda is here to help you remove snow from your car windshield and defrost that ice, so you can get back on the road in no time. Learn how to get ice off a car windshield fast with the service center at Metro Honda, and keep your car running at its best during winter with us.

How to Get Ice off a Windshield Step by Step

When you head out in the morning, having to scrape off ice from your windshield can be a hassle and put you behind schedule. Luckily, Metro Honda has outlined a step-by-step guide to help you get that ice off your windshield and get you back on the Newark roads quickly. Here’s how to ice off a windshield fast:

  1. Turn your car on, and be sure to set your defroster settings on “high”.
  2. Spray a mixture of salt and warm water on your windshield. Be sure not to overspray as it can cause damage to the glass on your windshield.
  3. Use a rubbing alcohol and water mixture on your windshield to remove any remaining ice from your windshield.
  4. After the ice breaks down, use an ice scraper or something similar to remove any excess ice or snow.

Does Vinegar Melt Ice From Your Windshield?

If you need to remove ice from your windshield but don’t have an ice scraper or anything similar, then you might be tempted to try using vinegar. You’ve probably heard that vinegar is an efficient tool for melting ice, but this is usually only the case when it’s applied the night before ice forms. If you’re expecting ice to form in the morning, then apply vinegar to your windshield the night before as the acetic acid reduces the freezing point of water.

Be sure to note that you should avoid using vinegar on windshields with cracks or scrapes on them since the acidity in the vinegar could further damage the windshield. For ice scrapers and other parts to help you fight those New Jersey winters, visit our parts store at Metro Honda.
