How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

mechanic changing a car wheel.

It all depends on your owner’s manual, but in general, you’re going to want to rotate your tires every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. That’s the answer to “how often should you rotate your tires?” but there is much more to tire rotation than that. Now that you’ve got some facts on when to rotate tires, stay tuned for Metro Honda’s comprehensive guide to tire rotation as well as some of our lease offers for what could be your next Honda.

Why Should I Rotate?

It’s common knowledge that rotating your tires extends the life of your tires, but why is that? You get the most benefit out of regular rotations for these reasons:

  • You’re reducing the strain on the drivetrain
  • You’re getting better traction when the roads are slippery
  • You’ll hear less noise in the cabin as you drive

Since the weather can get wacky in Bayonne and Newark, you’re going to want to get tire rotations regularly. We have to recommend our service for tire rotations because we have Honda certified technicians who can handle any problem your Honda may face.

FWD and RWD Tire Rotations

Front-wheel drive cars will wear down the front tires quicker than the rear tires, while rear-wheel-drive models will do the same but to the rear tires. Here are some quick tips on rotating tires for these types of cars:

  • If you’re performing a home tire rotation for an FWD car, flip sides when you go from rear to front. That is, the rear left tire becomes the new front right while the old front right will become the new rear right.
  • For RWD cars, this goes in reverse. Your front right will become your new rear left while your old rear left will become the new front left.
  • If you’re an off-roader or racing is your passion, you’re going to want to rotate your tires more frequently. Metro Honda is great for tires in Hoboken.
