Museum of Russian Art
For 39 years, the Museum of Russian Art (80 Grand Street) has helped grow American awareness of Russian art in the Jersey City area and beyond. By cultivating a thorough and intriguing collection and curating rotating exhibits that span genres, MoRA has helped foster a vibrant Russian community throughout the tri-state area. Notable artists to be featured at MoRA include Erik Bulatov, Alexander Kharitonov, Dmitry Krasnopevtsev, Evgeny Kropivnitsky, and Lidia Masterkova.
Liberty Science Center
Science! Four floors of it, in fact, and an awe-inspiring IMAX Dome Theater. Jersey City’s Liberty Science Center (222 Jersey City Blvd.) is a home away from home for the curious explorers in your household. The 300,000-square-foot learning center has 12 museum exhibition halls, a live animal collection with 110 species, aquariums, and the the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium—the Western Hemisphere’s biggest planetarium. Recent exhibitions have included Sean Kenney’s Art Made with LEGO® Bricks, a dig for fossils with Jack Horner’s Dino Dig, and “Skyscrapers!”, a permanent exhibit that looks at how skyscrapers affect culture, the environment, and even weather patterns!
Hoboken Historical Museum
The Hoboken Historical Museum (1301 Hudson St.) showcases the history, culture and architecture of Hoboken, NJ. For those looking to learn more about historical Hoboken—and even for those who don’t—the exhibits, speakers, and educational programming are an insightful and entertaining look at the New Jersey city just off the Hudson Waterfront. In the former Bethlehem Steel Machine Shop, the museum has exhibits featuring the city’s relationship with the Hudson River, its role as a producer of sweets, an intriguing history lesson from the vantage point of Hudson County postcards, and a rich photography exhibit by Anita Heimbruch.
Located in New York CIty’s Hudson Square neighborhood, the 20,000-square-foot exhibit is an explosion of colors. Color Factory (251 Spring St., New York, NY) has an impressive roster of artists who’ve collaborated, along with the public’s participation, to create new-age pieces ideal for digital spaces, like Instagram. Yes, art you are encouraged to take selfies with. Exhibits have included rooms filled with balloons, illuminated dance floors, ball pits, and more. Originally intended to stay for a single month, Color Factory has now continued to sell out for 8 straight months.
